KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown women's volleyball needed something positive to happen, and thankfully, it didn't have to wait very long. After a weekend of two close, challenging PSAC East defeats, KU bounced back in its final non-conference match of the regular season, taking down Felician in straight sets Monday night inside Keystone Arena.
Â
The Golden Bears (9-9 overall) also evened their record back to .500 and won by scores of 27-25, 25-17, 25-20.
Â
Paige Skinner (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) led the attack with 16 kills and added eight digs.
Madilyn Bogovic (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) finished with a double-double, ending the night with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Grace White (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) recorded seven kills and three blocks.
Emma Baldridge (Damascus, Md./Damascus) contributed 38 assists, six digs and two kills.
Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) added 15 digs and four assists.
Â
The toughest set of the three was the opening one, where Kutztown was forced to go into extras to get the better of the visiting Golden Falcons (6-12). KU was actually one point away from dropping the first set as it trailed 24-23 and 25-24, a kill by White knotted up the score at 24-24 and a Felician service error tied it back up at 25-25. Baldridge and White combined for back-to-back kills to finish off the set.
Â
The Maroon and Gold made sure to give themselves more of a cushion in set two. They turned a 2-2 tie early on into a 10-3 advantage and kept leads of at least six points the rest of the way, going up by as many as 11 (18-7), leading to a set winning kill from
Madison Lowe (Kearneysville, W. Va./Jefferson).
Â
Just as they did the set prior, the Golden Bears started fast, scoring the first four points. They stayed in the lead the rest of the way, continuing to add on points and never led by less than two points. The match was ended by a Bogovic kill.
Â
Kutztown's .237 hit percentage was the fourth-highest of the season and best since .298 against Lincoln on Sept. 27.
Â
Kutztown has another weekend of PSAC East matches on the road, its second straight. The Golden Bears will first take on Bloomsburg this Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m., and then will face Lock Haven Saturday night, also at 6 p.m.
