INDIANA, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team kept its historic run alive Saturday afternoon, defeating IUP 3-0 at George P. Miller Stadium to extend its program-record win streak to 12 straight.
The Bears (12-0, 4-0 PSAC) met the Crimson Hawks (4-5, 1-3 PSAC) for the second time this season after a 4-1 victory on Sept. 17. This time, KU completely shut the door, earning its seventh shutout of the season, a mark that ties for fifth-most in program history.
Reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) got KU rolling just 32 seconds in, taking it herself into the circle and lifting it high past the goalie for her 11th goal of the season.
Marissa Rice (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) followed with her own 11th of the year midway through the second quarter. Off a successful penalty corner,
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) found Rice in front for the finish. The pass marked Harrold's seventh assist of the season, which leads the team.
Sierra Jester (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) rounded out the scoring late in the fourth, putting away a backhanded feed from
Julia Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) for her fourth goal of the year. Traynor's assist marked KU's 45th of the season, the second-most in program history, just two shy of the 2022 record (47).
Defensively, the Bears remained dominant. Freshman keeper
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence), the reigning PSAC and NFHCA Defensive Athlete of the Week, recorded the seventh shutout of her career. KU controlled possession throughout, outshooting IUP 8-0 and earning six penalty corners while holding the Crimson Hawks without a single attempt or corner opportunity.
Kutztown will look to break the program assist record and continue its unbeaten season when it hosts No. 5 West Chester on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
