LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Freddie Retter (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) of the Kutztown University football team claimed a spot on the prestigious Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Fall Top 10, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The PSAC Top 10 was introduced during the 1998-99 academic year and is awarded to male and female student-athletes that excel in both the classroom and athletic competition at the conclusion of the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons.

Retter had a breakout season with career-highs of 22 solo tackles (43 total), 13 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, two fumbles forced, two fumbles recovered and three blocked kicks. The redshirt sophomore from Quakertown, Pa. was the 2024 PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year and D2CCA Super Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year. Retter was an All-PSAC East First Team, D2CCA All-Super Region One First Team and D2Football.com Elite 100 Second Team selection. He was also recognized as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District pick.

Retter led the PSAC in blocked kicks and ranked in the top five in fumbles recovered and sacks per game (0.68). He was top 25 in NCAA Division II in all three categories. Retter, who recently joined the Golden Bear wrestling team this winter, is an elementary education (math & science) major with and had a 3.97 GPA at the time of his nomination.

Retter becomes Kutztown's 17th male Top 10 recipient and 41st overall since the award's inception. He joins Jason Stephens (1997-98, 1998-99), Alex Daecher (2000-01, 2001-02), Michael Baldwin (2005-06) and Ryan Nye (2008-09) as KU football players to receive the award.
