COLCHESTER, Vt. – No. 1 Kutztown field hockey featured five different goal scorers that accounted for a season-high seven goals in defeating Southern Connecticut State 7-0 Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Best Western Windjammer Fall Classic, played on the campus of Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.

The Golden Bears (3-0 overall) won both of their games in the tournament on back-to-back days, defeating the host Purple Knights 5-0 on Saturday.

Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and
Mia Simpson (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) both scored two goals to lead the Maroon and Gold offense and
Marlee Fetrow (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone),
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and
Marissa Rice (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) each tallied a goal. It was the first tallies of the season for Fetrow and Rice.

Fetrow got the scoring going with a shot from the perimeter on a pass by
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) that beat Owls goalie, Rachel Miller, with just 0:50 left in the opening quarter. Gonzalez and Simpson found the back of the cage in the second quarter with assists to
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) Gonzalez to give KU a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

Doyle received a pass by
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and finished around the front of the cage just 3:27 into the third quarter. Gonzalez, Rice and Simpson rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears, with Doyle and Gatehouse adding assists to the mix.

KU outshot SCSU 26-0 overall and 17-0 on cage. The Maroon and Gold also had an 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Three goalies saw time for head coach
Marci Scheuing, as
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) started and
Alaina Telenko (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and
Lorelai Lehenky (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) both entered the game. Neither was forced into action.

Kutztown has another full weekend in the Northeast next weekend as it plays back-to-back games. First, KU takes on Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m., and then will play Bentley on Sunday at noon.
