MANCHESTER, N.H. – Top-ranked Kutztown Field Hockey found the back of the cage in all four quarters, led by two goals each from
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and
Greenleigh McGehee (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), to push past a pesky Southern New Hampshire team 5-2 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game in Manchester, N.H.
Â
The Golden Bears (4-0) continued their unbeaten start to the 2024 regular season.
Â
Playing at Larkin Field has been good of late for the Maroon and Gold. The last time they played there, they took down the fifth-ranked Penmen in a shootout in an NCAA First Round matchup back on Nov. 16, 2019. Neither team scored in regulation that game, but this time around, the Golden Bears did plenty of scoring.
Â
Gonzalez got the scoring going in the seventh minute, scoring on a breakaway. McGehee tallied the first of two KU second quarter goals off a penalty corner just 0:44 in after a pass by
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York). Then just 0:22 later, Kutztown was on the scoring end once again, with Gonzalez recording her second of the contest after a long pass from
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown). The junior forward now has over 50 points in her career.
Â
Southern New Hampshire got a late goal in the second quarter which happened to be the first the KU defense has allowed all season, spanning 201 minutes and 48 seconds, and the teams went into the halftime intermission with KU out in front 3-1.
Â
McGehee recorded her second tally of the game with just 1:16 left in the third quarter as she fired home a shot after a pass by
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson). After the Penmen netted their second of the game 4:41 into the final frame,
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) got on the scoreboard for the first time in the game, rounding out the scoring for the Golden Bears.
Â
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) finished with a season-high four saves in cage for KU. Kutztown led in shots on goal (14-8) and corners (10-6).
Â
Kutztown will remain up north and have a quick turnaround as it will play at Bentley in Waltham, Mass., tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 15, at noon.
