KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell to Bridgeport to finish the second day of the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (0-7) looked to get in the win column with a victory over the Purple Knights (4-2), but after splitting the first day and making every set competitive to open the tournament, Bridgeport created a tough challenge for Kutztown to overcome. After the Purple Knights took a 2-0 advantage, the Golden Bears clawed out a close third-set victory and forced a fourth set. Bridgeport was ready to go home and made that known in their 25-17 victory in the fourth set to claim the match over the host team.
It was another day full of freshman highlights for Kutztown, as outside hitter Noelle Slye (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) recorded a team-high eight kills and tallied two blocks, while libero Lexi McLanahan (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) pitched in 22 digs, five assists and a pair of ace serves in the losing effort.
Saturday's opening match saw Fairmont State (6-2) sweep Franklin Pierce (2-5) three sets to none, as the Falcons were the only team to go undefeated on the weekend.
