KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Coming off of another stellar year under PSAC East Coach of the Year
Erik Burstein, the Kutztown University women's soccer team is looking to continue its success in 2024 and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's East Division head coaches expect similar results as KU was voted second in PSAC East's preseason poll, released Tuesday.
The Golden Bears enjoyed another successful season last year, finishing 15-2-5 overall and unbeaten in the conference at 12-0-4, claiming the top spot in the PSAC postseason tournament from the Eastern Division. KU advanced to the PSAC semifinal round and also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.
Kutztown returns four players named to the East First Team in midfielder
Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin), forward
Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) and defenders
Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Dana Wentz (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley).
Kutztown earned three of the possible nine first-place votes in the East. West Chester was voted first in the conference and received five first-place votes, while Gannon was tabbed as the top team in the West and received six out of eight first-place votes.
Kutztown opens its slate at home, hosting 2023 NCAA Regional qualifier, Concord, on Thursday, Sept. 5, at noon, at Keystone Field. KU will then take on No. 20 Charleston on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m., also at Keystone Field.
