LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --Â The Kutztown University's women's basketball and men's tennis teams registered the highest team grade point averages among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) institutions in their respective sports for the 2023-24 academic year, earning PSAC Top Team GPA Awards, announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Top Team GPA Awards are in their 13th year and are issued across 21 PSAC-sponsored sports. The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative team GPA in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 22 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
Nine different institutions claimed GPA awards with KU tied for the third most with two teams receiving recognition.
Kutztown captured multiple Top Team GPA Awards for the second year in-a-row. The women's basketball team posted a 3.745 GPA, higher than last year's. There were 10 student-athletes from women's basketball named PSAC Scholar-Athletes this year. The men's tennis team had the highest institutional mark at 3.776 and earned their fifth team GPA since the inception of the award. All 10 Golden Bears earned PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors this year.
Overall, Kutztown had a 3.334 GPA, the eighth-highest average of the league's 18 schools.
