KUTZTOWN, Pa. – For the second straight season, Kutztown University women's lacrosse heard its name called as one of 16 participating teams in the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship tournament during the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night.
Â
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference runner-up Golden Bears (15-5 overall) earned the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region and will take on a familiar opponent, No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg (12-6), this Thursday, May 16, at West Chester University's Vonnie Gros Field. The PSAC champion Golden Rams (19-0) earned the top seed and will host the four-team regional. Their opponent in the other regional semifinal is Seton Hill, another PSAC team.
Â
It will be the fourth matchup of 2024 between KU and ESU and the third meeting within the last 13 days. Kutztown has won two of the three games this season, as the teams split the two regular season matchups and the Maroon and Gold won the conference quarterfinal 10-8 back on May 7. They also met in this exact game on the very same field last year, with the Warriors winning 15-8 on May 12, 2023.
Â
Thursday's winners will advance to the regional final on Saturday, May 18.
Â
Kutztown set a new program record for wins in a season with 15 and played in its first PSAC championship game in 40 years. The Golden Bears will be looking to win their first NCAA game in program history.
