MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's tennis had its two-match win streak halted, Saturday, in a 7-0 PSAC East road loss to Millersville.
It was a tough outing for the Golden Bears, who were attempting to take another step forward towards a return to the postseason after starting league play 2-0. Millersville, which reached the PSAC semifinals a season ago, won all three doubles matches and captured 5-of-6 singles flights in straight sets.
Kutztown's best effort in doubles came at No. 1, where
Alejandra Vera (Manta, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Particular) and
Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) battled to the end in a 6-4 setback against Noelle Htwar and Hui Jen Soo.
Vera won her opening set over Htwar at No. 1 singles but the Marauder entry bounced back to take the second 6-1 and earned the victory with a 6-0 shutout in the third.
Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) claimed five games off Soo in a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at No. 2 singles, while
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) won four games in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Lauren Hayes at No. 5.
With the loss, Kutztown fell to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in PSAC East play. Millersville improved to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC East.
The Golden Bears are back at home Tuesday, April 9, to face East Stroudsburg at 4:30 p.m.
