Jason Wolff (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI, as the Kutztown University baseball team (15-27, 8-16 PSAC East) rolled over CACC foe Wilmington (23-18, 12-8 CACC) 14-2 in just seven innings Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Golden Bears were firing on all cylinders at the dish in the win, with six Golden Bears having a multi-hit game. Along with Wolff, Ethan Martini (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) hit his fifth home run of the season. Brennan Rozich (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Brian Finn (Warrington, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy), Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Cole Regn (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), and Colin Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) were the Golden Bears to notch an RBI.
Cody Barberio (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown) got the start for KU and earned his first win of the season, going four innings with two runs allowed. Trevor Leverington (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Tyler Cleveland (Pillow, Pa./Upper Dauphin) saw action in relief. The Wildcats' pitching staff had a rough outing, using eight pitchers in the loss. Justin Barcoski took the loss for Wilmington.
The Wildcats got the scoring going in the bottom of the first via a two-RBI single from Xavier Cortez to make it 2-0. Kelly and Rossillo knocked home a run a piece in the second and third innings to tie the game at 2-2.
KU opened the game wide open in the fourth inning. With two outs in the frame, Wolff launched his first home run of the game to score three runs and make it 5-2. Three batters later, Regn kocked home Jimmy Kerley (Indian Trail, N.C./Sun Valley) to make it 6-2. A wild pitch and a Rozich RBI single in the next two at-bats extended the lead to 8-2. The Golden Bears scored six runs on four hits and on error in the fourth.
In the fifth, Wolff hit his second home run of the game to extend the lead even further to 10-2. Finn and Wolff added another two runs in the sixth to make it 13-2. Martini put the cherry on top of the victory, hitting a solo home run to make it 14-2. The game was finished after seven innings due to a run rule.
The win is a big momentum boost for Eric Folmar's squad heading into the final two PSAC East series of the season. The Golden Bears are back in action on Friday, April 26, at North Campus Field against Shippensburg. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
