WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Senior
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) registered the Kutztown University women's tennis team's only point with a straight set win at No. 4 singles as the Golden Bears fell at West Chester, 6-1, in a PSAC East match on Monday afternoon.
Lazarchak improved to 7-6 on the season while playing at fourth singles for the first time in 2023-24. The Nazareth, Pa., native topped Golden Ram opponent Felicia Manful in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to help Kutztown (6-9, 3-3 PSAC East) avoid being shutout.
The Golden Bears could not get the results to go their way in all three doubles matches or the five remaining singles flights against playoff-bound West Chester (7-10, 5-1 PSAC East).
WCU dropped just four games between three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) and Lazarchak were KU's top showing pair at No. 2, falling to Amber Nguyen and Gabriella Lerario, 6-3.
Outside of Lazarchak's win at fourth singles,
Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) was the only other Golden Bear to win a set. Semery took a one set lead over Yuno Oe at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory in the first before falling 6-0 in the second and 10-6 in the super tiebreaker.
Alejandra Vera (Manta, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Particular) won six games in her top flight match with Delaney Tingle, a 6-4, 6-2 defeat.
Kutztown will wrap up the regular season and PSAC East play on Wednesday, April 24, when it travels to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. first serve.
