MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – A quartet from Kutztown softball finished the day with three hits Wednesday afternoon as Kutztown dropped a pair of games at Millersville in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader.
Â
Hannah Reimel (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent),
Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township),
Naya Darnowski (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) and
Alexa Stevens (Covington Township, Pa./North Pocono) all had three hits throughout the two games. The Golden Bears (21-16 overall, 9-9 PSAC) lost game one 4-0 and fell in game two 6-4.
Â
Reimel also had two RBIs and Stevens added an RBI and scored two runs, all coming in game two.
Emily Henn (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley) went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap.
Â
Kutztown finished with an 8-5 advantage in hits in the first game, but could not get any runners across home. The Marauders (18-17, 9-9) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and added two more insurance runs in the third.
Â
After coming out on the wrong end in game one, the Maroon and Gold jumped out on top early in the second game, scoring three times in their first at-bats and adding another in the top of the third inning to go ahead 4-0 early.
Â
Stocklin led off the game with an infield single and then advanced to third the next at-bat as
Ella McNeff (Factoryville, Pa./Tunkhannock) doubled, the first extra-base hit of her young career. Henn followed that up with a sacrifice fly to right field and a 1-0 lead. Stevens then brought around McNeff with an infield hit and then scored on a double by Reimel for the 3-0 advantage.
Â
In the third, Stevens and Reimel tag teamed for another run as the former singled and then stole second, coming home on an RBI single by the latter.
Â
Millersville cut its deficit in half with a two-run, bottom-half of the third and then had four runs in a decisive sixth inning, to take its first lead and then held on in the seventh to complete the sweep.
Â
Kutztown will host Lock Haven from North Campus Field in its next games on Saturday, April 13, which is also senior day. Head coach
Judy Lawes and her staff will recognize the two seniors in Reimel and
Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) prior to game one.
