MILLERSVILLE, Pa.-- The Kutztown University baseball team (8-16, 2-6 PSAC East) dropped both games of a doubleheader to wrap up a conference series against No. 6 Millersville (21-5, 11-1 PSAC East) Sunday afternoon at Cooper Park.
KU struggled in both games, dropping game one 6-0 and game two 8-1. The Marauders took the series, winning three of four games after the teams split Friday afternoon at North Campus Field.
The Golden Bears are back in action next weekend for a critical PSAC East series against Bloomsburg. KU will travel to Bloomsburg for a doubleheader on Friday, March 21 starting at 1 p.m.
Game One: Millersville 6, Kutztown 0
The Golden Bears were held hitless until the final frame as the Marauders used a five-run third inning to walk away 6-0 winners.
Jason Wolff (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had KU's only hit of the game, doubling to right field with top outs in the seventh inning. Zach Male (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) took the loss for KU, while Cody Barberio (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown) saw action in relief. Alex Mykut earned the win for Millersville.
The Marauders started the scoring with an RBI single from Cole Houser in the bottom of the first. Millersville broke the game open in the bottom of the third, plating five runs off four hits and two errors to make it 6-0.
Game Two: Millersville 8, Kutztown 1
KU had some more success at the plate in game two, but it fell behind 4-0 and couldn't catch up in an 8-1 loss.
Jimmy Kerley (Indian Trail, N.C./Sun Valley) had a hit and an RBI for the Golden Bears. Michael Burns (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), Jason Wolff (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Cole Regn (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), and Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had KU's other hits. Trevor Leverington (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) took the loss for KU, while Tyler Cleveland (Pillow, Pa./Upper Dauphin) saw action in relief. Conor Cook earned the win for Millersville.
The Marauders jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings. Burns kicked off the top of the fourth with a double and was knocked home by Kerely two batters later to make it 4-1. That was all the KU offense could put across the plate, as Millersville added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to walk away 8-1 winners.
