Season-low shooting night hurts Golden Bears in home defeat to East Stroudsburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown women's basketball team had a tough night from the floor, shooting 23.8% (15-for-63) overall and 12% (3-of-25) from long distance in dropping the regular season home finale to East Stroudsburg Wednesday night 51-42 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Divisional game.

The Golden Bears (13-14 overall, 11-10 PSAC) finished their home slate of the regular season portion of their schedule. They will host a PSAC First Round game on Monday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m., against an opponent to be determined. A win on Saturday at Shepherd clinches the three seed for KU and most likely a rematch with the Warriors (9-17, 7-14).

Olivia Smelas (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) finished with a team-best 15 points and added six rebounds. Shannon Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) tallied eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) recorded seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Each team struggled from the floor in the first half to get the ball in the basket. KU shot 23.3% (7-for-30) and ESU shot 42.9% (9-for-21). Kutztown walked off the floor into the locker room at halftime trailing 24-20.

It wasn't any easier in the third quarter, for either team, as they combined for 16 total points, the Maroon and Gold holding a 9-7 advantage.

The regular season finale is set for this Saturday, March 2, at Shepherd at 1 p.m. KU will then turn its attention towards the postseason, which begins with a home First Round game just two nights later on Monday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
