READING, Pa. – The Kutztown women's tennis team began competition in the spring portion of its 2023-24 regular season indoors Friday afternoon, falling to West Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference match at the Hillcrest Racquetball Club in Reading.
Alejandra Vera (Manta, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Particular) and
Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) were the lone winners on the day for the Golden Bears as they took their No. 1 doubles match over the Bobcats 6-2. The Maroon and Gold dropped the other two doubles matches and WVW earned the point.
Semery and
Ava Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) each won a set at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to take the match to a third set, but both ended up on the wrong end of the result as Semery lost 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 5-10 and Lewis lost 3-6, 6-4, 8-10.
Kutztown's home match with Salem, originally scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24, was postponed with no makeup date announced yet. KU will be back in action next Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Goucher at 9 a.m.
