READING, Pa.-- The Kutztown University men's tennis (2-3) team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule, falling to West Virginia Wesleyan (3-0) 5-0 at the Hillcrest Racquetball Club over in Reading.
In doubles action, the duos of Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) and Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana), along with Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) and Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute), all won a game but fell 6-1 in their matches.
Barcelo and Perez followed up their doubles action, winning six games in their respective singles matches. Despite their efforts, they both fell by the same 6-3, 6-3 score line. Freshman Dang Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) also lost 6-3, 6-3 in his singles match to Virginia Wesleyan's Gianluca Gerndt. Robinson capped off singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat against Takuya Kobayashi.
The Golden Bears are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 28, down in Baltimore against Goucher and St. Mary. The first match against Goucher will start at 9:00 a.m., followed by the St. Mary's match at 12:30 p.m.
