KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team fell to Slippery Rock 86-72 in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference home opener on Friday night inside Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (3-5, 0-2 PSAC) fell behind early and couldn't stop a strong offensive attack from The Rock (4-6, 1-2 PSAC) that featured a heavy dose of three-point shooting that contributed to a 27-point advantage midway through the second period.
Kutztown was led by sophomore Jaiden McGhee (Townsend, Del./Middletown) and senior Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll), who scored 20 and 19 points, respectively. The two guards did their damage from both the midrange and the free throw line, as McGhee went 4-for-7 on two-point shots while converting all six of his free throw attempts, and Bryant knocked down five of his nine midrange shots while scoring six points from the charity stripe.
The Maroon and Gold saw a 42-point contribution from their bench players, as big man Amir Cunningham (Middletown, Del./Middletown) tallied six points and pulled down five rebounds, and Yahmir Satterfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored six points in defeat.
In addition to bench points, KU led the game in free throws (22-for-29, 75.9%), as their strong season from the line continues to work to their advantage. The Golden Bears matched Slippery Rock's output with ten offensive boards and 34 points in the paint on the night.
Kutztown stays at Keystone Arena tomorrow, Dec. 7, playing host to the Seton Hill Griffins at 3 p.m.
