WILMINGTON, Del. – Kutztown women's basketball took a break from conference play and hit the road Saturday afternoon. KU opened up a big lead in the first quarter and kept its foot on the gas until the end in defeating Wilmington University 87-31 at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Golden Bears (4-7 overall) went out and earned a much-needed win, erasing a two-game losing streak.
Kutztown jumped out in front from the opening whistle, scoring 13 consecutive points after the Wildcats (0-12) netted the game's opening basket. KU led at the end of the first quarter 20-6. The Maroon and Gold never allowed Wilmington to hang around and held leads of 35-16 at halftime and 61-22 after three. Kutztown outscored WU 26-9 in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Bears shot 42.6% (29-for-68) from the floor and 34.4% (11-of-32) from the 3-point line, while holding the Wildcats to 23.1% (12-for-52) and 6.3% (1-of-16).
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) tallied a game-high 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting, adding five rebounds and three assists.
Anaya Price (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) netted a season-best 15 points. Both
Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) and
Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) finished with eight points and
Alexa Windish (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) totaled seven points and three rebounds.
Bella Quinn (Ashland, Ky./Russell) and
Kitty Randa (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) each contributed six points.
Kutztown returns to conference play with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when KU travels to take on Indiana (Pa.).
