KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) eclipsed the 1,000 career point plateau as Kutztown women's basketball recorded its most points in five years, taking down Penn State Lehigh Valley 96-20 Tuesday evening in a non-conference game inside Keystone Arena.
Pulliam, along with freshman
Alexa Windish (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood), tallied a team-best 16 points, a season-high for Windish, and both
Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) and
Jess Aponik (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Academy) netted 10 points as a quartet of Golden Bears (3-5 overall) reached double figures in scoring to get back on track and help stop a two-game losing streak.
The 96 points is the most in a game since Kutztown scored 97 in a win over Shippensburg on Feb. 2, 2019. KU went 36-of-81 from the floor (44.4%), the most made field goals in a game since its also connected for 36 in a win over Chestnut Hill on Dec. 17, 2016.
This one was out of reach by the end of the first quarter as the Maroon and Gold jumped out of the gate scoring the game's first 26 points and led 26-1 after the opening frame. It was 46-4 at halftime and 73-16 heading to the fourth.
There were 12 different Golden Bears that found the scoresheet.
Kitty Randa (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tallied nine points and seven rebounds.
Shannon Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy),
Anaya Price (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy),
Taylor Gurysh (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and
Esther Bernstein (Westport, Conn./IMG Academy (Fla.)) all finished with six points.
Olivia Smelas (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) recorded five points and five rebounds.
Anna Stein (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) contributed four points and
Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) added two points to round out the scoring for the Maroon and Gold.
Kutztown will be able to celebrate a long Thanksgiving break and will be off until Friday, Dec. 6, when it hosts Slippery Rock for its first home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. KU will then take on Seton Hill the following day at 1 p.m.
