Bryant’s 29 points lift Kutztown over Georgian Court

KUTZTOWN, Pa.  Senior guard Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) got hot at the right time, scoring 12 of his 29 points in the final five minutes to lead the Kutztown University men's basketball team to an 83-71 victory over Georgian Court at Keystone Arena on Tuesday night.

The Edgewood, Md., native was held in check for most of the first period, scoring four points for the Golden Bears (2-4 overall) in the first half, but turned things around and found his groove to wear down the defense of the visiting Lions (0-6).

Kutztown and Georgian Court went back and forth for most of the game, as the Golden Bears carried a one-point lead into the break, and the Lions came back from an 11-point advantage before drawing critical fouls to force key players out of the game.

Three other Golden Bears scored in double figures, as Tyler Koenig (Waldwick, N.J./Pioneer Academy) recorded 13 points, and Kameron Roberts (Townsend, Del./Middletown) and Jaiden McGhee (Townsend, Del./Middletown) each contributed a dozen in the win. Roberts led the team with seven rebounds, Juju Pagan (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) assisted on five KU baskets and Bryant snagged four steals, leading an effort that forced 16 opposing turnovers.

Kutztown kept their composure in a chippy game, one that saw a technical foul called against Georgian Court along with an ejection and jarring between both teams. The Lions' efforts fell short, notably on a 2-for-16 second-half clip from the three point arc.

The Golden Bears increased their efficiency after the half, shooting 50 percent from the field and 57 percent from long distance. Their 19-21 free throw percentage helped seal the game, while the bench contributing 19 points to Georgian Court's 7 to put the Maroon and Gold over the top.

Kutztown remains at home to close out November, welcoming the Wilmington Wildcats from Delaware into Keystone Arena on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m.
