Bowling sits in third after traditional competition at Lady Eagles Invitational

WOODLAWN, Md. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team finished the first day of the Coppin State Lady Eagles Invitational in third place, posting a 3-2 record in traditional play while toppling 4,787 pins in five games at the AMF Woodlawn Lanes on Saturday.

The Golden Bears (21-13) averaged 191.5 pins on the day, and while tough losses to No. 23 Delaware State (1023-1010) and No. 12 Mount St. Mary's (973-940) set their win-loss record back, they currently hold the third position in the 16-team field.

Wins over Howard (999-861), Virginia Union (921-814) and Fayetteville State (917-847) aided KU in maintaining a winning record on the opening day of Coppin State's home tournament.

Rookie Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) and senior Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) sit in the eighth and ninth positions in the individual standings, respectively. Brenneman's stats were boosted with a 259 mark in the win over Howard, which comes in as the second-best solo tally among 110 bowlers, while Sromovski's consistent day featured a trio of 200 games. The first-year bowler managed a 199 average over her five games, while the upperclassman turned in a 197.8 average to claim a spot in the top 10.

The two teams that defeated Kutztown sit ahead of them in the standings, as Mount St. Mary's (1st, 4,978 pins) and Delaware State (2nd, 4,818 pins) hold perfect 5-0 records after five matches. The current championship bracket features the top four teams, with Felician joining KU and the two leaders as the only four teams with a path to the tournament crown, but tomorrow could feature a shift in the standings.

Kutztown concludes the two-day tournament with baker competition on Sunday, where the Golden Bears are set to face Coppin State and Norfolk State before the championship bracket rounds close the tournament.
