LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team was swept in three straight sets by the Lock Haven Bald Eagles at the Thomas Fieldhouse on Friday night to open the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division road trip of the season.
The Golden Bears (1-26, 0-13 PSAC East) presented a threat in the first match of the season at Keystone Arena, but the Bald Eagles (6-17, 4-9 PSAC East) wanted none of that action, swiftly taking care of business as both teams look to close out the season tomorrow.
Kutztown couldn't muster up much throughout the three-set battle. They remained within striking distance late into the second set, holding the serve with a 19-19 tie game, but Lock Haven took six of the final seven points to secure a two-set lead over the visitors, taking the momentum into a quick third set to wrap up the night.
Freshman Christina Lockett (Gaithersburg, Md./Tuscarora) tallied nine kills and three total blocks, leading the team with 11 points on the night. KU welcomed back Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) after an extended absence, and her presence was felt with six kills, two block assists and a pair of ace serves. Libero Mallory Hoch (Zionsville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) totaled 12 digs to lead the team, while rookie Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) paced the Golden Bears with seven assists.
Senior Julia Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) led the team with three block assists and was complemented by Madison Lowe (Kearneysville, W. Va./Jefferson), who filled the stat sheet with five kills, five digs, a solo block and a block assist on her way to 6.5 points, third on the team.
The Golden Bears' season will come to a close tomorrow, Nov. 16, with an afternoon meeting against Bloomsburg at the Nelson Field House that is set to begin at 2 p.m.
