KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team was outmatched in a three-set sweep at the hands of the East Stroudsburg Warriors on Friday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division match at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (1-21, 0-8 PSAC East) struggled to find a rhythm against a Warriors (15-5, 5-3 PSAC East) squad currently sitting near the top of the PSAC East Division standings as the season nears the end. Kutztown attempted to spark attacks on East Stroudsburg, only for the Warriors to snuff out everything with powerful kills and strong performances from the service line.
Kutztown held a 7-4 advantage in the second set, led by contributions from sophomore Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Bryanna Carter (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood), but the Warriors responded with an 11-3 run to take a lead that the Golden Bears were never able to recover from.
Hess led the team with three service aces on the night, while Carter recorded six digs and five kills. Junior Mallory Hoch (Zionsville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) stepped in at the libero position and posted 12 digs, and freshman Grace White (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) had seven kills and three blocks to pace the team in a solid individual performance. Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) contributed 11 assists throughout the night.
Both seniors saw extended action for the shorthanded Golden Bears, as Julia Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) recorded a pair of digs and a kill in one set while classmate Anna Parmer (Firestone, Colo./Mead) took the floor in the opening set of the match.
Kutztown will look to heal up before a 7 p.m. match against Shippensburg on Nov. 1 at Heiges Field House. KU returns to Keystone Arena for one final homestand with a matchup against Millersville on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
