KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University volleyball team played at the level of Bloomsburg on Saturday evening, but it was the Huskies who claimed the match with a 3-1 victory at Keystone Arena in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division matchup.
The Golden Bears (1-17, 0-5 PSAC) fell by no more than five points in their three losses, managing leads late in the opening two sets while showing their resilience in their 27-25 set three win over the visiting Huskies (6-11, 4-1 PSAC).
Similar to Friday night's nail-biter, Kutztown was paced by sophomore Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman Grace White (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown), who recorded double-digit kills (11 and 15, respectively) for the second time in as many games. Freshman Bryanna Carter (Abingdon, Md./Edgewood) chipped in with ten assists and three ace serves in a hard-fought defeat.
First year libero Lexi McClanahan (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) led the team with 18 digs and a service ace, while fellow newcomer Saige Thibodeaux (Cape Coral, Fla./Ida S. Baker) picked up 36 set assists and 15 digs on the night.
Kutztown hits the road for a PSAC East bout with Millersville on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at Pucillo Gymnasium in Millersville, Pa. The Golden Bears return home Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. for the final non-conference match of the season against Jefferson at Keystone Arena.
