NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Fourth-ranked Kutztown field hockey had seven different players find the back of the cage and the defense kept the season's goal allowance at zero as KU defeated Saint Michael's 8-0 Saturday afternoon at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn.
It is the first of back-to-back games in back-to-back days that the Golden Bears (2-0 overall) will play at Jess Dow Field at SCSU.
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) paced the offense with two goals, the first tallies of the season for the senior. It's the second time in her career she's scored two goals in a game.
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York),
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick),
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson),
Mackenzie Kile (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood),
Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) all recorded a goal each, with Craley and Gatehouse scoring in their second straight game after the duo netted both goals in KU's season-opening 2-0 victory over New Haven this past Thursday. Gatehouse and
Hannah McConnell (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) both added an assist a piece.
The Maroon and Gold defense once again earned a shutout and has not allowed a goal through two games.
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) made one save in cage.
Kutztown scored in each quarter, netting three goals in the opening frame and did not look back from there. KU led 4-0 at halftime. The Golden Bears held a 23-1 advantage in shots, 18-1 on cage. They also had a 22-0 edge in corners.
Kutztown will play its second game in as many days, also at Jess Dow Field, as it takes on the host Owls tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m.
