KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Freshman midfielder
Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) of the sixth-ranked Kutztown women's soccer team made her mark last week and earned this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Athlete of the Week recognition, announced by the league office Monday.
Economopoulos had a breakout week for the sixth-ranked and undefeated (5-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 PSAC) Golden Bears. In two games, she finished with three goals and an assist, including a five-point game (two goals, one assist) at nationally-ranked West Chester. Economopoulos scored her first collegiate goal, the game's opener just 0:38 into the contest that proved to be the winning goal of a 3-0 game vs. No. 12 West Chester. She assisted on KU's second goal of the first half and then added her second in the second half. The midfielder then scored for the second game in-a-row to help Kutztown down Shippensburg 2-1 on Saturday.
The Grantville native joins
Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), who brought home the weekly award two weeks ago, on Sept. 5.
Kutztown has two road games this week, including at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m., and then at Shepherd on Saturday, Sept. 23, at noon.
