Kutztown’s run for a repeat at PSACs comes to an end with Thursday loss to East Stroudsburg

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown's run for a second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament championship came to a sudden close Thursday. After falling for the first time earlier in the day to Bloomsburg, KU was defeated by East Stroudsburg, the two seed out of the East, 7-1, Thursday afternoon at Veterans Park in Quakertown, ending the run with a 1-2 mark.

The Golden Bears (29-24 overall) lone victory came Wednesday afternoon, 7-4 over Mercyhurst.

KU finished with six hits, with six different players recording a hit. Kate Ostaszewski's (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) double down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Kristin Geesey (Bainbridge, Pa./Elizabethtown) and gave KU its lone run of the game.

Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township), Geesey, Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union), Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) and Amanda Slabicki (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) had the other hits.

The Warriors (38-15) scored two runs in the top of the second inning, two more in the fourth and then three in the sixth. More than half of their runs came on two swings as they hit a two-run home run in the second and another in the fourth.
