Golden Bears win 6-1 at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown women's tennis evened its record in PSAC East play with a 6-1 road victory at East Stroudsburg Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears won twice in doubles and five times in singles against a shorthanded Warrior squad that defaulted both third doubles and sixth singles.

Only needing to win one of two contested doubles matches, Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) did just that at No. 2, whitewashing Sherin Paul and Montana Catalan, 6-0. ESU (0-6, 0-3 PSAC East) won first doubles 6-1, but the result had already been decided.

Kutztown (5-8, 2-2 PSAC) quickly put the match out of reach in singles. Lazarchak beat Samantha Passmore 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Klo defeated Jesse Galvin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, as the duo each won 18 games without dropping one on the day.

Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) downed Catalan 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 and Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) controlled Paul in a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4.

No. 1 Elina Joronen secured the Warriors' only point with a straight set victory.

Kutztown remains on the road to face Shepherd Friday at 1 p.m.
