Seniors shine in season-ending victory over Lock Haven

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown's three seniors: Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) each won their final collegiate singles match to lead the Golden Bears past PSAC East foe Lock Haven, 4-3, in their season finale Tuesday afternoon at the Keystone Courts.

The trio of wins were critical, along with one from freshman Angela Moncavage (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth), as they helped Kutztown (8-10, 4-3 PSAC East) recover after falling behind 1-0 following doubles play.

Klo teamed with Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) to beat Olivia Anastos and Olivia Sharp, 6-1, at second doubles to pull the Bears even after the visiting Bald Eagles (8-5, 3-4 PSAC East) had won at No. 1. The final doubles match hung in the balance for quite some time before Lock Haven secured a 6-4 win from Delani Wolever and Christy McLean at No. 3.

Klo tied the match with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Mary Kathryn Hillman at fifth singles, but LHU went back in front as Mia Shuler won at No. 2.

Kutztown claimed the next three matches to clinch the match. Moncavage defeated McLean 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6, Marks earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory over Anastos at No. 3 and Wendling downed Wolever 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

The Golden Bears' eight wins and four conference victories are their most since 2013-14, when they won nine and four, respectively. All three seniors on this year's team won double-digit singles and doubles matches over the course of their careers.
