Â
Lock Haven 4, Kutztown 3
Â
Kutztown was one out away from defeat in the top of the seventh inning, but following a
Jenna Piatkiewicz (Fogelsville, Pa./Parkland) stolen base that put the freshman on second base, she raced home when the Lock Haven left fielder could not make the play on a
Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) line drive to tie the game at 3-3.
Â
In the bottom-half of the inning, however, the Bald Eagles were able to walk it off. The leadoff batter reached base safely after she ran to first following a dropped strike three. A stolen base and sacrifice bunt later that put her on third, Haley Lestician brought home the winning run on a single up the middle.
Â
Hughes got the scoring going with an RBI single to left field that allowed
Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) to touch home for the game's first run. Lock Haven tied the game in the bottom of the third and then the two teams traded runs in the fifth that put the score tied at 2-2. Darnowski had an RBI sacrifice bunt for KU.
Â
Kutztown 7, Lock Haven 4
Â
Kutztown fell behind 2-0 after Lock Haven scored twice in its first at-bats, but it answered with a four-run inning in the third, highlighted by a two-run double from Darnowski and an RBI sacrifice fly by Hughes.
Â
The Bald Eagles got one back in the bottom-half of the third and then tied it at 4-4 with a run in the fourth. But KU had three runners come home in the sixth with Stocklin, Darnowski and Harvey picking up RBIs in the frame.
Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had two hits.
Â
Gravish, who started inside the circle in the opener, relieved Harvey with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and did not give Lock Haven any type of offensive momentum the rest of the way.
