Box Score 2 BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
Haley Gravish (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) threw a complete-game shutout in game one and also earned the victory in game two, while also bringing in the lone Kutztown run in the opener.
Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union), who eclipsed the 100-hit plateau for her career, finished the day with five hits, including a 4-for-4 game two as KU beat Bloomsburg 1-0 and 8-6 to earn a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division road sweep Wednesday afternoon at Jan M. Hutchinson Field.
Â
The Golden Bears (17-17 overall, 11-7 PSAC East) evened their overall record and have now won three games in-a-row after dropping six of their previous seven entering the day.
Â
Gravish hit a one-out double in the fourth inning of game one that brought home Harvey for the game's only run. Harvey drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a double over the center fielder's head in the top of the seventh inning of game two to break a 5-5 deadlock.
Â
Sarah Harvat (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) and
Alexa Stevens (Covington Township, Pa./North Pocono) both had two hits between the two games.
Â
Kutztown concludes its busy week with two more road games at Lock Haven in PSAC East competition this Saturday, April 15, with game one beginning at 1 p.m.
Â
Kutztown 1, Bloomsburg 0
Â
Just like in yesterday's game one at East Stroudsburg, Gravish and Kutztown were involved in a pitcher's dual. This time, however, Gravish came out on top. The sophomore threw seven shutout innings and struck out five Bloomsburg batters to earn her ninth win of the season and improved her earned run average to 2.15, which currently ranks fifth in the PSAC.
Â
Gravish did it all in the opener. While not allowing the Huskies to reach home, she helped herself out at the plate with a one-out double to left field that brought home
Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) for the game's only run.
Â
Bloomsburg had an 8-5 advantage in hits, but Kutztown delivered when it mattered. The Huskies had at least one runner on second base in every inning but the third and fourth and had the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, but Gravish made sure to get the third out each time, without allowing a runner home.
Â
Kutztown 8, Bloomsburg 6
Â
Gravish and Harvey once again came up big when their team needed it most. Harvey started inside the circle and threw 4.2 innings, giving up just two earned runs. She got into some trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning and head coach
Judy Lawes called upon Gravish to finish the game. She threw the final 2.1, allowing just one earned run for her 10th victory of the year. Gravish got out of a jam herself as the potential game-winning run came to the plate with two outs and runners on first and second, but she induced a flyout to right field to end the game.
Â
Bloomsburg went on top for the first time on the day when they brought in two runs in their first at-bats. KU, however, erupted in the fifth inning to the tune of four runs on three hits to take a 4-1 advantage.
Â
The two teams traded a run in each of their next at-bats before the Huskies tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a two-out, two-run double by Kayleigh Lenner.
Â
The Golden Bears would not be denied of the sweep though, as they orchestrated a three-run, top of the seventh, punctuated by the double by Harvey and two-run single by Gravish.
