Bears sweep Penn State Harrisburg, 7-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The Kutztown University men's tennis team cruised to their second straight win, 7-0, over Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference match at the Keystone Courts Thursday.

Playing without regular No. 1 Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) proved to be no issue for the Maroon and Gold. Freshman Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) stepped into the top role along with classmate Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) in doubles, where the duo produced a 6-0 win over Andrew Schreck and Nick Rohn. Perez went on to win all 12 games in a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Aaron Krasley at No. 1 singles as well.

Kutztown (6-5) also got doubles wins from its second pair of Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) and Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary), 6-2, over ZiJun Ou and Derwin Merca, and the third team of Jacob Bosler (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and Lucas Cherniak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini), 6-0, against Evan Stillwell and Colin Flack.

Neal Devkaran (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) followed Perez in singles by handling Schreck 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and Robinson held off Ou at No. 3, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

No. 4 Arizpe, No. 5 Gincauskas and No. 6 Ethan Moyer (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) were all straight set winners for KU. Arizpe beat Merca 6-2, 6-1, while Gincauskas topped Rohn 6-0, 6-1 and Moyer downed Stillwell following a first set tiebreaker 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Kutztown will not make the trip to Bloomsburg for its PSAC match Saturday due to expected inclement weather. The Golden Bears travel to Chestnut Hill for a 1 p.m. non-league match Sunday, before making up the match at Bloomsburg this coming Monday, April 3, at 3 p.m.
