Harvey delivers with her bat and arm to help KU take one-of-two vs. East Stroudsburg

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sarah Harvey (Swanton, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) came through both at the plate and inside the circle as Kutztown softball took game two against East Stroudsburg University, evening the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at North Campus Field.

The Golden Bears (9-11 overall, 3-1 PSAC East) lost game one 8-3 before bouncing back to win game two 5-1.

Harvey finished the day with five RBIs and three hits in five at-bats at the dish and then started game two inside the circle and earned the victory, throwing four strong innings, allowing just two hits and one run to even her record on the year to 2-2.

Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township) had a combined three hits on the day and Kate Ostaszewski (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), Hannah Reimel (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Sarah Harvat (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) all had two hits with the latter's coming in the nightcap.

Kutztown is set to finally make up its games with Lock Haven after been previously postponed twice. Game one is set for 1 p.m., from North Campus Field.

East Stroudsburg 8, Kutztown 3

Kutztown fell behind 4-0 but pulled to within just one run with a three-run, bottom of the sixth inning. East Stroudsburg then got out of that sixth and added some much-needed insurance by doubling up its run total with a four-run seventh and then got KU out on three of four batters to finish out the opener of the doubleheader.

KU's big sixth inning game thanks to a three-run home run by Harvey, her fourth of the season, that also brought home Brianna Stocklin (Deptford, N.J./Deptford Township), who singled to lead off the inning, and Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland).

The Warriors, which finished with 12 hits, double that of KU's six, scored twice in the top of the first and two more in the fourth.

Kutztown 5, East Stroudsburg 1

Just like she did in game one, Harvey got the scoring started for the Maroon and Gold. Her single through the right side brought around Stocklin and Ostaszewski, both of whom singled themselves, to give KU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The next batter, Kutztown doubled its lead via a two-run home run by Brianna Hughes (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland), her first on the year and 23rd of her career, tied for eighth-most in program history.

Harvey did not allow a hit over the next two-plus innings until a solo home run by Abbey Weirich in the top of the fourth to put the Warriors (18-8, 6-2) on the scoreboard. Haley Gravish (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) then entered the game at the start of the fifth and gave up just one hit the rest of the way, sitting down the last seven East Stroudsburg batters in order.

Ostaszewski added on to the Golden Bear lead with a solo drive in the bottom of the fifth, her first home run this season.
