Jake Skrocki (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) was dominant on the bump, pitching seven scoreless frames as the Kutztown University baseball team (13-8, 1-3 PSAC East) picked up its first conference win of the season in a 4-1 victory over Lock Haven (10-7, 4-3 PSAC East) at Watkins Field Friday afternoon.
The righty from Royersford, Pa. only allowed four hits while striking out seven in his seven innings of action. Skrocki improves to an impressive 5-1 on the season, while Aedan Walter took the loss for the Bald Eagles. Gavin Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) entered in relief in the eighth inning and allowed one hit and one earned run while striking out two. He earned the save.
At the plate, Ethan Martini (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) led the way, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. The junior outfielder got KU's scoring going in the third inning, singling to right field to score Jimmy Kerley (Indian Trail, N.C./Sun Valley) for the 1-0 lead. Martini plated a run three innings later, scoring Kerley again on another RBI single which made it 3-0.
Brennan Rozich (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Antonio Rossillo (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had the Golden Bears' other RBI in the win. Rozich singled to shortstop in the fourth, scoring Dominic Proietto (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) to make it 2-0. Rossillo put the cherry on top in the win, hitting his third home run of the season to make it 4-0 in the top of the ninth. Kerley was the other Golden Bear with a multi-hit day, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
The Golden Bears, having already surpassed last year's win total, will look to win the series against Lock Haven on Sunday, March 26. The teams will match up in a doubleheader at North Campus Field starting at noon.
