HAMILTON, BERMUDA -- The Kutztown Men's Rugby Team traveled to the Bermuda International 7's Tournament for spring break. The Golden Bears captured the Cup Championship in an impressive fashion. Kutztown swept through the twelve team competition with six wins and no defeats in pool play or the knockout rounds on Saturday. The two day competition saw the Golden Bears score 220 points with only 19 against.
On Friday, the first day of competition , Kutztown took their pool by defeating Vanderbilt University 58-0 , Mystic Collegiate Selects 29-5 and Harvard University 48-0. In the Quarterfinals on Saturday, they defeated Stony Brook University 43-0. Mystic Collegiate Selects clawed their way into the semifinals, only to succumb to Kutztown once again 29-7. On the other side of the bracket , an excellent Brown University hung onto slip by the Bermuda National Team 12-7.
This set the stage for a showdown between Brown, the 2022 National 15's Champions and Kutztown, the 2022 National 7's Champions. The Golden Bears were up for the challenge and smothered Brown with a swarming defense and vicious, unrelenting attack.
The final score 22-7 and the Bermuda Cup, is another feather in the cap of an outstanding Golden Bear squad, as they prepare to defend their national title on April 28-30 in Germantown, Maryland.
