With the victory over the Bald Eagles on Monday night, the Golden Bears (15-14 overall) have now won at least one PSAC postseason game for the second season in-a-row and fourth time in the last five. The Maroon and Gold are making their sixth straight appearance in the PSAC tournament and the ninth time out of the last 10 seasons. It is the first time they are playing on the road in PSACs since the 2017-18 quarterfinals at West Chester. They are looking to get back to the final four for the second straight year and for the third time in the last four years.
Â
Kutztown enters Wednesday night winners of four in-a-row, coming out victors in its final three regular season games and the First Round win. Shippensburg (23-5) received a bye in the opening round and has won five consecutive games, four by double figures. The Raiders' last loss came at the hands of the Golden Bears back on Feb. 8, at Keystone Arena. The two teams split their two regular season games with each team winning on their respective home courts.
Â
The KU defense ranks first in the PSAC in points allowed, giving up just 56.2 points per game. The Raiders offense is third in the conference, scoring 73.3 ppg. Ship's game plan is to get to the charity stripe as it ranks third the nation in free throws made (488) and sixth in free-throw attempts (677). Ariel Jones set the NCAA Division II record for career free-throws made and currently has made 834.
Â
Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy), the 2019-20 PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year and two-time All-PSAC East performer, has done a good job guarding the PSAC's leading scorer, Jones, holding her to 17.5 ppg in the two meetings during the regular season, eight points below her season average. In the two games, Jones shot 20% (3-for-15) and 23% (6-for-26), respectively. Remolde ranks third in the PSAC with 1.7 blocks per game.
Â
The winner of Wednesday night's quarterfinal will advance to Saturday's semifinal round. In the semifinals, the highest remaining seed from host division will play the lowest remaining seed from the opposite division.
