Men’s basketball drops PSAC contest to Shippensburg 87-80

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The Kutztown University men's basketball team (5-17, 5-12 PSAC) fell in PSAC action to Shippensburg (15-8, 13-4 PSAC) 87-80 Wednesday night at Keystone Arena. 

The Golden Bears battled all night, giving Shippensburg a run for its money until the very end. Despite being down 19 points halfway through the second half, KU battled back to make it a six-point game with a minute left in the contest before the Raiders were able to put the game away.

Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) had another great game, scoring 24 points, only two off his career-high while grabbing four boards and dishing out four assists. The senior from York, Pa. is quietly having the best season of his college career, setting career highs in points, assists, and rebounds per game. 

Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) continued his double-double ways, netting 17 points while snagging 11 rebounds. Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa./Hazleton) and Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) were the other Golden Bears in double figures with 11 points each. Kyle Whippen (Arlington,Va./Westfield), Wesley Butler (Reading, Pa./Reading), Kameron Roberts (Townsend, Del./Middletown), and Ryan Glassmacher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic (Pa.)) rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears.

Carlos Carter led Shippensburg, coming two assists shy of a triple-double with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Dom Sleva scored 18 and grabbed 12 boards. The win helped the Raiders clinch the spot in the PSAC Tournament.

The Golden Bears struggled from the floor, shooting 37% compared to Shippensburg's 48%. The Raiders also found success in the paint, outsourcing KU 48-32 and outrebounding them 45-37. 

The Golden Bears will look to get back into the win column this Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. against Lock Haven. KU returns home on Monday, Feb. 13 for a non-conference game against Goldey-Beacom.
