Women’s Basketball drops double overtime contest to Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa.Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) and Annie Whalen (Ivyland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) combined for 39 points, but Kutztown women's basketball had two separate, late leads slip in losing a double-overtime thriller to Millersville, 71-62, Monday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division game at Keystone Arena.

They were both career-highs for Pulliam and Whalen, who finished with 21 points and 18 points, respectively for the Golden Bears (10-12 PSAC, 8-8 PSAC), who lost their second in-a-row, and split the season series with the Marauders (14-9, 9-8), beating them 60-48 back on Jan. 11.

Taylor Langan was the story of this one as she led the way with a game-high 32 points and 17 rebounds, going 15-for-17 from the free-throw line.

Kutztown led for a majority of the game, holding a 19-11 advantage after the opening quarter and a 31-23 edge at halftime. Just like what happened in the second quarter, the two teams played evenly in the third quarter and KU remained out in front 44-36 heading into the fourth. The fourth quarter is where Millersville got back into the game and outscored the Maroon and Gold 13-5, holding KU to 2-for-15 shooting from the floor and force overtime.

In the first overtime, the Golden Bears went on an 8-0 run in the first 2:32, but the Marauders scored 10 of the final 12 points as it went to a second overtime. Millersville then broke out and outscored KU 12-3 to finish off the game with the win.

Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) recorded eight points and four rebounds. Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) added seven points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block, but fouled out.

Kutztown has a quick turnaround, but will remain at home for its next game as it hosts first-place Shippensburg on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 5:30 p.m. The Raiders defeated the Golden Bears 68-62 in overtime back on Jan. 21.
