LANDISVILLE, Pa. -- It was a very successful debut to the 2023 season for Kutztown 7's. The coaching staff mixed the sides, left some players at home to heal and entered the Frostbite 7's Tournament in Hempfield, Pa. One side (Maroon) was entered in the Premier Division and another side (Gold) was placed in the Open Division of the tournament. The Open Division side went 3-1 with wins over St. Joe's 12-7 / Delaware 25-7 but fell short against Pitt 17-21. However, the Gold side had accumulated enough differential points to find themselves in the championship game for the Open Division bracket of the Tournament. They where determined and successful, as they defeated Rutgers 38-5 and brought home the trophy. 
 
The other KU side (Maroon) was entered in the Premier Division where they tied with Brown 17-17 in the opening round. They then proceeded to defeat AIC 45-0 , Brown 2nds - 38-11 and was awarded a forfeit when Lehigh didn't return for the third match. That placed them in the championship match for the Premier Division and another game with Brown. It was an interesting matchup since KU is the current NCR national champions. in 7's. While Brown is the current 15's national NCR champions. The match was  a seesaw event with both teams fighting for possession and territorial advantage. This one was won by Brown 12-7 and Kutztown Rugby had completed another great weekend of rugby sevens. The next tournament will be held on the campus of the University of. Maryland in College Park Maryland. It will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023. That will be the first national qualifier of the spring season, as Kutztown gears up their efforts to return to the 2023 Collegiate Rugby Championship. This year's national championship tournament will be held in Germantown Maryland, at the Maryland Soccerplex on 
April 28-30.
