EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Kutztown wrestling trailed 15-0 and 21-4 before putting together three straight victories, two via the pin, and pulled to within just four points in the final bout.
Dustin Swanson (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) earned a decision at 285, but KU fell one point short in its comeback attempt against East Stroudsburg, dropping the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match and regular season finale 24-23 Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
After the Golden Bears (7-5 overall, 3-4 PSAC) dropped the first three bouts and fell behind 15-0,
Kibwe McNair (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) earned a major decision at 149 pounds to put KU on the board and trailed 15-4. The Warriors (5-7, 2-5) got a pin at 157 to go up 21-4.
Dalton Gimbor (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) then recorded a major decision at 165 and both
Ethan Baney (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and
Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had pins at 174 and 184, respectively, to cut the deficit to 21-20. The two teams then split decisions at 197 and 285 to finish out the match.
Hunter Horton (James Creek, Pa./Tussey Mountain) picked up a decision in a 165 pound exhibition.
Kutztown will be right back at Koehler Fieldhouse in about a week and-a-half as it will compete at the NCAA Super Region I Championships on Saturday, Feb. 25.
