Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | C.J. Hemerly, Assistant Sports Information Director

Remolde drains shot in waning seconds to give KU the victory at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) returned to her hometown and played a hero role as she connected from distance with just 0:04 to go to help Kutztown women's basketball climb back to defeat Chestnut Hill on the road Saturday afternoon, 53-51, at Sorgenti Arena.

The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the Golden Bears (2-6 overall) and completes their non-conference portion of the regular season schedule.

Remolde finished with a team-best 16 points, none bigger than the three she received by drilling a three-pointer with 0:04 to go after Abbey Hearn (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) found her open in the corner after drawing a double team on a drive to the basket. Hearn tallied 15 points, four rebounds, two steals and one block.

That late basket culminated a fourth quarter rally, late, as KU trailed by as many as six points, twice, in the frame and found themselves behind by five (50-45) with 0:50 left. Remolde followed two Griffins (4-5) free-throws with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to two, at 50-48 and 0:28 to play. Chestnut Hill then went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe after a Kutztown foul and Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) drove to the hoop for a basket to push the score to 51-50 with 0:14 on the scoreboard.

Following another Maroon and Gold foul, Bridie McCann missed both free-throws, allowing the Golden Bears a chance to win it. Remolde, the Philadelphia native, took advantage of the opportunity and spotted up ready for the pass from Hearn and drained her shot.

KU needed some positive momentum and it received it in dramatic fashion heading back into the conference portion of its schedule.

Olivia Smelas (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) recorded eight points and six rebounds. Pulliam had five points, Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) contributed four, Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) added three and Sydney Pierson (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) rounded out the scoring with two points.

Kutztown remains on the road and will get back into Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition as it will head out west for two games. KU will play at Gannon on Monday, Dec. 18, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a game at Clarion the following evening at 5:30 p.m.
