Golden Bears bested by Wilmington (Del.)

NEWARK, Del. -- The Kutztown University men's basketball team (1-7, 0-2 PSAC) dropped a non-conference road contest to Wilmington (Del.) (4-4, 1-0 CACC) 78-58 Thursday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Golden Bears struggled Thursday night, shooting 36.2 % from the floor and below 30% from three while committing 22 turnovers. In comparison, the Wildcats shot 48.4%, including a 61.29% mark in the first half, and almost 40% from beyond the arc while committing only 13 turnovers. KU did a good job on the boards, outrebounding Wilmington 45-34.

The Golden Bears jumped out to a 4-2 lead a minute into the game, but that's the only lead they would have in the contest. The Wildcats went on a couple of big runs in the first frame and entered the break up 18 points. A Jaiden McGhee (Townsend, Del./Middletown) layup and a Yahmir Satterfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) three right out of the half cut into the lead slightly, but not enough to threaten a comeback. The Wildcats led by as much as 25 points with five minutes left in the game, its largest lead of the game.

Satterfield had another solid showing in the loss, netting a team-high 19 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. The Philadelphia native added four boards, two assists, and two steals. McGhee was the other Golden Bear in double-digits with 14 points and a joint team-high six rebounds. Amir Cunningham (Middletown, Del./Middletown), Ryan Glassmacher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic (Pa.)), and Tyler Koenig (Waldwick, N.J./Pioneer Academy) were the other Golden Bears with six boards.

KU has a little break before heading to western Pennsylvania for two PSAC West crossover matchups. The Golden Bears will match up with the Golden Knights of Gannon on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
