Bryant nets 27 as Golden Bears fall to Jefferson on the road

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --The Kutztown University men's basketball team (1-2) dropped its second game of the season in non-conference action to Jefferson (1-2) 89-70 Wednesday night at the Gallagher Center in Philadelphia.

Junior guard Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) continued his excellent start to the campaign, netting 27 points in the loss. Amir Cunningham (Middletown, Del./Middletown) was the only other Golden Bear in double-digits with 13 points. Sophomore Ryan Glassmacher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic (Pa.)) led the team with eight boards to go along with six points.

Turnovers were the name of the game, as KU committed 24 compared to 14 from Jefferson. That resulted in the Rams outscoring the Golden Bears 36-12 in points off turnovers. KU also struggled beneath the basket, being outscored 50-34 in the paint, including a 15-4 disadvantage in second-chance points.

Jefferson never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 21-6 with 13:15 remaining in the first half. Thanks to a three-pointer by Jaiden McGhee (Townsend, Del./Middletown) and a free throw by Cunningham, KU was able to cut the lead to 31-18 with four minutes to go in the first half. That's the closest the Golden Bears would get as Jefferson took an 18-point lead into the half.

The second half was a more even affair, with Jefferson outsourcing KU by only a single point (46-45). Despite that, the Rams amassed a 31-point lead halfway through the second frame and never looked back. A late KU run cut down the score, but it wasn't enough as the Rams took the game 89-70.

The road non-conference slate continues for KU as the Golden Bears head to New Jersey to take on Georgian Court this Saturday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
