Rushi Amin 2023 Hall of Fame Headshot

RUSHI Y. AMIN '15 | MEN'S TENNIS

Rushi Amin stands as one of the top players in Kutztown men's tennis history, with career accomplishments matched by few Golden Bears.

Amin, originally from Vadodara, Gurjarat, India, made an instant impression as a freshman in 2010-11, slotting into the middle portion of KU's singles lineup and going 12-2 while playing primarily at No. 4. He also split time between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, going 13-4 while mainly teamed with Juan Gutierrez. The Golden Bears claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship and Amin's 25 combined wins impressed the conference coaches, who voted him 2011 PSAC Freshman of the Year.

The first year success served as a springboard to the rest of Amin's collegiate career. He quickly rose to the top of the Bears' singles and doubles lineups, earned five All-PSAC honors, three PSAC individual championships and was the 2013 PSAC Athlete of the Year. He's one of only three players in program history to be named PSAC Freshman of the Year, PSAC Athlete of the Year and win a PSAC title.

Amin had taken over at No. 1 singles by the end of his sophomore year, finishing 10-1 in singles overall to claim his first All-PSAC Singles honor. Amin's junior season would go down as one of the best at KU, however.

As the Maroon and Gold's top flight player, Amin won 20 of his first 21 singles matches, including 19 in straight sets. He completed a sweep of the brackets at the 2012 PSAC Individual Championships in the fall, winning singles and teaming with Varun Desai to take doubles. Kutztown went on to claim the 2013 PSAC championship and reach the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. Amin became just the sixth Golden Bear to win 20 or more singles matches in a season on his way to capturing the PSAC's top individual honor.

For an encore, Amin posted a 15-5 singles record and 21-3 doubles mark as a senior in 2013-14. His 21 doubles victories remain seventh among the program's single season leaders. Amin and Desai defended their PSAC doubles title at the Individual Championships. The Bears finished as PSAC runners-up before knocking off West Virginia Wesleyan in the NCAA Tournament. In a rematch of the PSAC championship match, KU bowed out to Edinboro in the Atlantic Region final. Amin earned his third straight All-PSAC Singles selection and second All-PSAC Doubles honor in a row.

Amin, the first men's tennis player to earn KU's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014, ranks 10th in school history with 118 combined wins. His 61 doubles victories rank sixth at KU and his 57 singles wins rank eighth. He and Varun Desai teamed to win 31 matches across their two years as doubles partners, third-most in school history and the most for a KU duo since 2004.

Amin currently works as an investment banker for Carlsquare. He's also a member of the KU Alumni Council leadership team, KU College of Business advisory council and represents the KU Alumni Council on the KU Foundation board.
