Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Connor Donohue, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

McDonald continues red hot form as No. 7 women’s soccer defeats Lock Haven 2-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) registered her third three-point game in the last four contests as the seventh-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team (8-0-3, 7-0-2 PSAC East) downed Lock Haven (1-8-1, 1-7-1 PSAC East) 2-0 in miserable conditions at Keystone Field Saturday afternoon.

McDonald netted her third goal of the season, along with her PSAC-leading eighth assist of the season in the win. True freshman sensation Katelyn Economopoulos (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) celebrated her birthday with her fifth goal of the campaign, while Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), and Allie Tierney (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) were the other Golden Bears with a shot on goal. Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was called into action in between the sticks for KU and made two quality saves in the contest.

The Golden Bears firmly outshot the Bald Eagles 22-2, including a 7-2 shots on goal advantage. Despite the lopsided box score, Lock Haven had some good moments in the contest, including five corner kick opportunities, the same amount as KU. Megan Miller made five saves in goal for the Bald Eagles.

Economopoulos' goal came only three minutes into the contest. The Grantville, Pa. native found herself unmarked in the six-yard box and headed in a cross from McDonald to make it 1-0. There were 68 minutes of action in between KU's goals, but it was well worth the wait. In the 71st minute, McDonald had her initial shot saved, but then she fired a shot off the half-turn that kissed the bottom of the crossbar to make it 2-0.

The Golden Bears remain unbeaten on the season and remain at the top of the PSAC East with 23 points. East Stroudsburg sits in second with 22 points, followed by West Chester with 18. The Golden Bears still have to host both of those teams at Keystone Field this regular season. KU has also beaten Lock Haven in 15 straight games dating back to 2011.

The Golden Bears hit the road for a mini-road trip this week, traveling to Millersville on Wednesday, Oct. 11, before heading to Shippensburg on Saturday, Oct. 14. That game at Millersville will kick off at 4 p.m.
