LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Kutztown University linebacker
Tyler Whary (Hereford, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Whary led another strong effort by Kutztown's defensive unit in a 17-12 win over Millersville, Saturday, that secured the Golden Bears' third PSAC East title in the last four seasons.
The graduate student from Hereford, Pa., made seven tackles (three solo), while registering a sack, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.
Kutztown, which extended its winning streak to seven games, limited the Marauders to 58 yards rushing. The Bears continue to lead the PSAC in scoring defense (14.4 ppg) and total defense (249.1 ypg).
Whary leads KU in tackles (52), solo tackles (30) and quarterback hurries (8), while ranking second in tackles for loss (8.0), sacks (4.5) and pass breakups (4).
The Golden Bears wrap up PSAC East play this week when they travel to West Chester for a noon kick. KU will host Slippery Rock in the PSAC championship game, Nov. 11.
