EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's volleyball team (8-12, 1-7 PSAC East) struggled to get anything going on the road Friday night, falling in straight sets (10-25, 16-25, 14-25) to East Stroudsburg (16-5, 8-0 PSAC East) at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors proved why they were the number-one team in the conference right off the bat, going on runs of six and seven points in the first set to run away with it. The Golden Bears battled right back in the second set, going toe-to-toe with ESU till it was 11-10 in favor of the Warriors. ESU then ended the set on a 14-6 run to take the second frame. The third set mirrored the first, as the Warriors went on a couple of big runs to take the set 25-14, and the match 3-0.
KU's offense ran through Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Gabriela Fialova (Ledec nad Sazavou, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka), with the duo having 11 and nine kills respectively. Sarah Hess (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) also chipped in with five kills and two service aces in the match. Cat Farole (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) had 22 assists to round out the offense. Defensively, Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) led the way with 12 digs, while Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) had two blocks in the loss. The Warriors had a significant advantage in hitting percentage in the match, besting the Golden Bears .330 to .061.
KU has a quick turnaround, returning to Keystone Arena tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 21 for its final non-conference match of the season against New Haven. That match will start at 2 p.m.
