MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The Kutztown University men's basketball team (5-10, 5-5 PSAC) was narrowly downed by Mansfield (4-10, 3-7 PSACC) 73-72 at the Marion Decker Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Both teams battled back and forth all night, with the largest lead for either team being nine points, but a Saraj Ali putback with two seconds left in the game proved to be the difference in the contest. The Golden Bears trailed by five with 1:14 left, but back-to-back three-pointers from Jordan Harding (Bear, Del./William Penn) and Brendan Boyle (Allentown, Pa./Notre Dame) gave KU the 72-71 lead before Ali's last-second basket.
Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) led the way for KU with 18 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) netted 14 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Kyle Whippen (Arlington,Va./Westfield) turned in his best performance of the season, netting a season-high 12 points while grabbing six boards. Jordan Harding (Bear, Del./William Penn) was the other Golden Bear in double figures with 10 points, going 2-2 from beyond the arc.
KU is back on the road this weekend, Saturday, Jan. 21 at Shippensburg. That game will tip off at 3 p.m. The Golden Bears return home on Monday, Jan. 23 against East Stroudsburg in the It's On Us / White-Out game.
