SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown men's basketball team wrapped up a week full of road games with an 89-62 setback at Shippensburg Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Divisional game at Heiges Fieldhouse.
The Golden Bears (5-11 overall, 5-6 PSAC) have lost three conference games in-a-row and five of their last six overall. Heiges Fieldhouse has continued to be a tough place for the Maroon and Gold to come out of with a victory, as they fell for the fifth time in-a-row there and have not won at Shippensburg since Feb. 1, 2017.
KU trailed by just one point (19-18) after a layup by
Kyle Whippen (Arlington,Va./Westfield) with 9:05 left in the first half, but the Raiders (11-6, 9-2) ended the half on a 21-10 run to take a 40-28 lead into the halftime locker rooms. Playing shorthanded with just nine healthy bodies, Kutztown played hard and kept the game within reason for all but the final 10 minutes. Ship held a 49-34 scoring advantage in the second half.
Three finished in double figures in scoring and two others finished just one point shy. For the first time this season,
Jordan Harding (Bear, Del./William Penn) led KU in scoring with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals. Whippen and
Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) each had 10 points, while
Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) and
Brendan Boyle (Allentown, Pa./Notre Dame) both tallied nine points.
Ryan Glassmacher (Stewartsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic (Pa.)) recorded six points,
Chase Whippen (Arlington, Va./Westfield) netted four points and grabbed six rebounds, while
Kameron Roberts (Townsend, Del./Middletown) rounded out the scoring for Kutztown with three points.
Kutztown will be right back out on the court in two nights as it returns to Keystone Arena after being away for two straight games. KU will host the top team in the East as of Saturday, East Stroudsburg, on Monday night, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m., for the It's On Us/White out game.
